Is the seal good
“Can you carry it?”
“You can’t lift the lid…”
This is a conversation with a customer yesterday. I felt very depressed after the conversation.
In fact, I wanted to talk about the topic of whether the lid could come up but the pot would not fall off. However, I didn’t talk about this topic because I knew that some of my colleagues took this as the selling point and it had nothing to do with myself.
But several times later Tao you asked: can you lift the lid of your pot and keep it? I patiently explained how it was done. Until yesterday, chatting was really depressing, so let’s talk about some simple views.
First of all, I’ll tell you how to grind the lid of the pot and lift it up without dropping it. It’s not a secret. It’s not very difficult. We all know the phenomenon that two pieces of glass with water stick together. It is the principle that the lid of the pot can be lifted, which mainly meets the following four conditions.
Condition 1: the lid and mouth of the pot should be flat as far as possible, so that the contact surface between them is large enough. If the pot mouth is concave, it is OK as long as the mouth can be ground even.
Condition 2: when grinding the pot mouth, there is no shaking after grinding to the cover. The safe way is to quickly grind off the surplus part with the help of the drawing wheel, and finally leave a little bit by hand, so as to ensure that most of the pot caps will not shake after being covered. This is why I said in the previous article that grinding to achieve a perfect fit is no longer a technical problem, it only tests the degree of care.
Condition 3: the plane between the lid and the spout should be smooth enough, just like the surface of glass. The method is: first, use coarse emery (such as 180 mesh) to grind to nearly complete sealing; then use finer emery (such as 600 mesh) to continue grinding; finally, in order to achieve as smooth as glass, select special fine emery (such as 1200 mesh or higher) to grind to the desired effect.
Condition 4: dip a little water on the lid, turn it properly after covering, similar to tightening action. At this time, you hold the lid of the pot button, release the teapot, found that the pot will not fall. So the miracle was born.
These four conditions are to be disassembled and introduced to you. It may feel complicated. In fact, this is a whole process of each pot. The difference is that usually grinding pot mouth, generally do not use different fineness of emery; and most of the use of casting wheel, speed is fast, if the center point deviation is a little bit or the grinding person is not careful, there may be a slight shaking.
People usually see the “performance” of lifting the lid of a pot with a little water in advance. Why do we have to dip it in a little water? It’s the principle that two pieces of glass stick together.
So I saw this kind of video several times before in the circle of friends. I just looked at it as entertainment. I never thought it would be amazing to hold the lid on the pot and a good work was not reflected in this place. As far as Jianshui purple pottery is concerned, a good work is the proper combination of the overall shape and decoration. The shape of the ware is beautiful and harmonious, the decoration has content and culture, and at least it has to have the personality that you want to express.
I still remember the first time I went to the studio to order a purple pottery pot. The pottery master asked me, “how to grind the lid?” I said that it would be fine if it didn’t shake and rotate smoothly; he continued, “do you want to grind it up?” I asked how difficult it was; he said that as long as you add 10 yuan for each pot, you can grind it.
I can bring it to him on the spot
