建水紫陶为什么要打磨?

建水紫陶之所以普遍进行打磨,是因为烧制之后表面形成一层氧化物,颜色大多呈灰色,遮盖了紫陶的本色。将这层氧化物(俗称火皮)打磨掉后,紫陶的真容得以展露。

现在打磨的操作过程大多是:先用喷砂机将表层火皮去除,但是仍然显得粗糙,然后借助纤维轮打磨光滑。磨亮光则需要借助拉坯机的转盘,湿毛巾粘上金刚砂,将作品固定在转盘上,随着转盘的转动,双手握紧湿毛巾接触紫陶作品表面,不断打磨至亮光。虽说借助一部分外力,但是打磨仍然是很费力气的活计。

标准化打磨的结果是紫陶表面大同小异,失去个性。其实在以前没有喷砂机、金刚砂的年代,打磨是用砂石,全靠人力一点一点完成。虽然做不到现代的光滑玉润,甚至亮光的效果,但是依靠砂石手工打磨出来的紫陶,每一件都独具个性,而且将建水紫陶的金石质感体现得淋漓尽致。
