Today, I will answer two questions related to the purple pottery water tank that many Taoyou are concerned about.
1、 Is the purple pottery water tank really breathable?
Answer you objectively, positively and responsibly: really.
In the classification of ceramics, there is a large category called “stoneware”. Stoneware was called “stone body porcelain” in ancient China. From its name and meaning, it is characterized by compact body, complete sintering, but not vitrified. It is a kind of product between pure pottery and pure porcelain.
Stoneware also has a very important feature: water absorption is below 6%. What does this data mean? It means that the fired ceramic body can also be impermeable without glaze.
What is the relationship between water absorption and air permeability? Purple pottery belongs to a kind of heat preservation material. Its water absorption and air permeability are like twin brothers. If the water absorption rate is less than 0.5%, the green body is airtight and impermeable, which is what we call porcelain; when the water absorption rate is between 0.5% and 6%, the green body is breathable but impermeable, which is the stoneware mentioned above; if the water absorption rate is greater than 6%, the air permeability is also water permeability, that is, all kinds of pottery that have not been fully sintered.
Before we introduce the stoneware is the compact body, has been fully sintered, which is the characteristics of Jianshui purple pottery. In fact, Jianshui purple pottery, like Yixing purple sand, belongs to the scope of stoneware, with air permeability, but impermeable.
2、 Why is it said that the purple pottery water tank has a better function of maintaining water quality?
One of the reasons why water has the ability of self purification is due to various oxidation reactions within the water.
After a tank of water is standing still, the water body gradually tends to be calm, and the particles heavier than water settle and accumulate at the bottom of the tank, and the easily oxidized substances are oxidized by oxygen in the water; organic matters are biologically oxidized and decomposed by microorganisms in the water, and after mineralization, the water will return to its original clean state, which is the self purification function of water body.
The ability of self purification requires water to continuously obtain oxygen from the outside, so that the oxygen consumed in the oxidation process can be replenished.
In order to prevent dust, drinking water needs to be stored as tightly as possible, which is common sense. In this environment, oxygen in the air needs to be replenished, and only the green body with air permeability can exchange with the outside air.
So back to the first question, the purple pottery water tank is precisely a certain degree of air permeability, and the oxygen consumed by water oxidation in the tank can be replenished by air exchange with the outside world. Although it may be slow, it’s much better than a porcelain tank or a gum bucket.
Therefore, the water in ground water, porcelain water tank and colloidal water bucket is relatively calm without air supplement, and its self purification ability is much worse than that of water in contact with air. Once the groundwater is polluted, it is almost impossible to restore the original water quality; after a period of time, the water in the colloidal bucket will produce a layer of viscous substances, which means that the water quality is deteriorating and can not be drunk for a long time.
In addition, the advantages of the purple pottery water tank are that the raw materials contain a lot of minerals needed by the human body, the lower temperature in the tank can inhibit the growth rate of harmful bacteria, and so on. I introduced it to you in an earlier article, and I will not repeat it here.
