One hundred years ago, in the turbulent times, the Central Plains princes separated and fought for hegemony; in Jianshui, South Yunnan, living on the border, although there was turbulence, there was little peace compared with the whole country.

In the northern suburb of jianshuicheng, there is a pottery craftsman whose family has been making pottery for hundreds of years. On this day, he received an important task: to make a distinctive pottery with southern Yunnan characteristics, dedicated to a great person in the world.

It was a task that had to be completed, and the craftsman attached great importance to it. In the next period of time, he put all his energy into the creation of this pottery.

Clay is not difficult. Jianshui has very high-quality pottery clay. On his back, he took a bamboo basket and a digging tool, and came to wuse mountain, where he often collected mud, and personally selected pieces of high-quality mud. Back in the workshop, he smashed, selected and sifted out the substandard parts, and then prepared the mud by the traditional method of pulping.

His pottery making experience for many years told him that his best shape was the plump and unsophisticated garlic bottle. So he pulled out 10 garlic bottles at one go, and chose the most perfect one that his father thought was the most perfect one. His father was his master of pottery making, and his father could always give him very pertinent advice on pottery.

According to the past practice, it seems that the ceramic body can be fired in the kiln after it reaches the appropriate dry humidity. He also liked the things he had made. He was used to the smell of firewood burning. As long as he followed the previous practice for a few days, he could get a variety of falling ash glazed pottery, which he always did before.

But this time he wanted to do something different. The guests told him to “be different and rich in southern Yunnan characteristics”; and he wanted to dedicate it to the great people of the time. Naturally, he could not be careless.

He wanted to give purple pottery more rich things. Great people must have profound cultural background. Therefore, this pottery should be made with full cultural flavor. He thought, an accidental experience came into his mind.

I went to my husband’s house last year to celebrate the new year. My husband usually loved him very much, so he took him to his study to explain his newly created calligraphy works. He listened to his words carefully. The schoolboy brought tea and went to pick it up. He accidentally knocked down a piece of words on the desk that had not yet been mounted. When he turned around to have a look, he suddenly found that there was room for the spread of these characters. Some of the characters were covered and some of them were exposed. They were wrong and wrong. It was very interesting.

He recalled the picture again and again, trying to see if it could be shown on the pottery. He told his husband what he thought, and he agreed with him, and he wrote on the pottery. All blend into one harmonious whole, the artisans and the gentlemen were all surprised. The picture was integrated with the garlic bottle. He felt that he had discovered a new world.

But the problem came again. Although the calligraphy and painting were beautiful, once burned, it would be completely different. Unless the beautiful picture could be carved on the pottery slab forever, he found the best sculptor in Jianshui city and carved the picture on the bottle.

However, the engraving picture completely lost the ink feeling and lost the charm of the past. My father suggested that the ink should be replaced by clay, and the original cover of the previous calligraphy and painting should be filled in. Meanwhile, in order to look better, the blocks of different fonts were suggested to be filled with mud of different colors.

After all the calligraphy and painting are completed, the craftsman has carried out the work of finishing the blank; however, the picture at this time is more charming than the painting and calligraphy made by the previous Mr. before: the idea is exquisite and unique, and the technique is novel and unique, and it is full of a kind of “incomplete aesthetic feeling” worthy of playing.

Finally, the garlic bottle was sent to the wood kiln. After several days of patience and care, the day of opening the kiln came. However, the problem reappeared, and the previously filled color images were almost invisible with wood ash. The picture was so beautiful that the craftsman tried to make it appear again.

He ran to the Lujiang River and picked up pebbles of different thickness. From thick to thin, he polished the bottle body again and again. After hundreds of times, the whole bottle was bright as a mirror, the color was purple copper, the touch was warm as jade, and the sound was like a chime. Mr. Zhang named it as “Jianshui pottery remnant paste” because it was made of pottery, but it was incomplete. It was produced in Jianshui of Confucianism!
